World Bird Festival

The World Bird Festival is a month long series of events celebrating theinspiration of birds. The festival is being co-ordinated by BirdLifeInternational and will be launched on October 6th at the famous Gaudibuilding La Pedrera in Barcelona, Spain. The Festival`s theme for 2001 is The Inspiration of Birds. Birds inspire people of all ages, religions and ethnic groups - often through their beauty, their songs and sounds, and their behaviour.

The Festival’'s theme for 2001 is ’"The Inspiration of Birds’". Any event that involves bringing people closer to the inspiration of birds and will take place during October can be part of the 2001 World Bird Festival. You can register your event by contacting the people at the end of this article. There are also a variety of ways that you can join in as an individual. There are possibly events already taking place in your country which you can go along to. For instance in France there is an ornithological film festival at the end of October. You can find out about World Bird Festival events taking place in your country at http://www.birdlife.netYou can go out birding during October and participate in the 5th WORLDBIRDWATCH on October 6th ? 7th or the 7th NTT ME World Bird Count during October. NTT ME will make a donation of 1000 Yen (about 8US$) to BirdLife’'s threatened species fund for every species from around the world, up to a maximum of 5 million Yen. Birders are encouraged to send in their bird lists via the NTT ME World Bird Count website at: http://www.wnn.or.jp/wbc/wbc_e/ During the festival we will be holding web based activities to celebrate thebirds, which we hope you will participate in.
