Birding Sri Lanka DVD
Birding Sri Lanka Duration 2 Hours - Filmed, presented and produced by Malcolm Rymer - DVD www,wildlifevideos.net
I've been visiting Sri Lanka at different seasons for the last 15 years. It's a beautiful island with spectacular scenery, friendly people and a wealth of wildlife. The country is blessed with a great variety of habitats from inland and coastal wetlands, relic tracts of lowland forest, highland plateau to sun-baked lagoons of the island's south-east. Sri Lanka has a checklist of 492 birds, including 33 full endemics.
The film gives an overview of the island, its topography, climate habitats, visiting a number of contrasting areas throughout the island. There are useful references for those contemplating a trip. We explore the coastal wetlands in the western wet and dry zones, Horton Plains in the hill country, Yala and Bundala National Parks and the world-famous Sinharaja lowland rainforest.
The DVD is intended for both birding and wildlife enthusiasts planning an independent trip, as well as those joining a guided tour. In total 128 birds are shown, including 20 full endemic species and also 12 endemic sub-species, the images hopefully appealing to those new to the Indian sub-continent as well as seasoned travellers.
The Fatbirder View
I wouldn’t argue with any of that – it made me want to go back to this fabled isle!
