Bird Writers
There are websites by birders who write and writers who bird that deserve a greater audience than their county or state… below some of my favourites will appear over time. Feel free to send me a link if you write about birds.
Al Batt who writes for several US magazines and his own blog as well as being a frequent guest speaker is someone who transcends any genre… he is just a superb writer and particularly economic with words… adjectives are as rare as hen’s teeth.
Dominic Couzens is not only a great birder and thoroughly nice bloke… he is also an incredibly prolific author of bird books. His magazine articles are always incredible informative.
Stephen Moss is one of Britain’s leading nature writers, broadcasters and wildlife television producers, specialising in birds and British wildlife. A lifelong naturalist, who is passionate about communicating the wonders of the natural world to the widest possible audience. He’s written over 30 books, including Ten Birds that Changed the World (shortlisted for the Wainwright Prize for Nature Writing), and his TV credits include Springwatch.

If you are a writer on birds, or have a favourite writer on birds and birding who has a website mail me, and I’ll list the website.

The ‘useful reading’ section below is a blatant bit of self-promotion! Books I have written, or made a contribution to. I’ve also written a column in a birding magazine for over two decades.
There is another type of birding writer; the whole genre of birder-murders, with authors across the pond in the US like Jan Dunlap and homegrown authors such as Anne Cleves of Vera fame and the original birder-murder man Steve Burrows. At least half a dozen other authors have dipped into this genre. Try one, they are great fun.
