Finding Birds in Southern Cyprus – The DVD & The Book – Dave Gosney | Easybirder 2010 | DVD | 65 Mins | DVD ISBN 9781907316227 | Softcover Booklet ISBN 9781907316210 | £23.50 |

These two are really designed to be used together initially. Enjoy watching the DVD, but have the book handy as each section of the DVD carries the page and site number of the booklet so you can marry the two. This way you will be reminded of the scene and localities when you pull the lightweight booklet from your pocket in the field.

This DVD serves as an introduction to the best birdwatching sites in Southern Cyprus, covering 27 different locations, and includes footage of almost 70 species of birds including endemics and migrants. Species featured include the Black Francolin and Bonelli’s Eagle, filmed on high-definition video cameras.

The booklet also covers all the best birdwatching sites in the southern part of the island, including Paphos, Akrotiri, Troodos, Larnaca and Ayia Napa. Each site includes up-to-date, accurate maps along with GPS co-ordinates for ease of location.

There are bigger and glossier guides but none deserves to be in your luggage more than this handy booklet, and few of the others will tuck into your pocket virtually unnoticed until needed. It may not look that professional with its hand-drawn annotated maps, but it is actually the most reliable and useful one I’ve come across.

I’ve said it before and may well say it again, if there is an Easybirder guide to wherever you plan your next overseas trip make damn sure you watch the DVD then take the booklet with you, as I guarantee it will the one that turns up the birds just where it says they will be!
