There are very few birders who are so single minded as to not take an interest in the rest of the natural world. Many take photos, others trap moths or list dragonflies, butterflies or bees. Indeed, most of us are only too aware that the whole of the natural world is in dire need of our conservation efforts. As birders we also find that some times of the year are less good for birding than others. Most of us will also have access to our own backyards and want to know what’s going on in them… whether its which plants to grow to help our bird visitors or just to look more closely at what lives close to us.Like most life long birders I have always had an interest in nature in general. This year (2013) I decided to record all the animals occurring in my tiny ‘postage stamp’ urban garden… and am staggered by the diversity of bug life and the incredibly extensive micro world.

This page reflects that wider interest and seeks to help the birder see what else is going on in their own back yard…

This blog is all about my exploits into moth trapping in my small urban garden (it actually covers 2 gardens as I have moved since I first started the blog and any trapping I do away from home). I should also point out that I release the moths the following evening, I do my best to never harm them or keep them from doing their thing for long
