Best Bird Watching Sites – Norfolk | 3rd Edition | by Neil Glenn | Buckingham Press | ISBN: 9780956987648 | Paperback | Aug 2013 | £17.95

I cannot believe that it is over a decade since I reviewed the first edition of this book. I was, judging by that review, pretty impressed with it. Then the only thing I could find to criticize were the illustrations, which I described as having a ‘sort of smudged look’. A quick glance at the line drawings in the third edition and I am very impressed… they are a delight – crisp drawings of familiar and iconic species.

The other thing that is most striking is how these Buckingham Press Guides have gone from strength to strength. A few years back other publishers started to blatantly copy the style and content divisions of the books, their look and many of their ground-breaking features. Somehow they never quite managed to keep up! I am particularly impressed with their ‘Key Points’ column and the percentage chances of encountering the birds you seek – they still haven’t been matched elsewhere.

I’m not going to bore you with detail… just point out that the author was kind enough to pop down to the Birding For All stand at the British Bird fair and donate the last 10 copies of the last edition. They went faster than any other books we had (including mine!) and were soon sold out… thanks Neil! Those lucky buyers were getting a bargain… anyone who buys the new edition will feel just as pleased with themselves! I am just as pleased to thoroughly recommend it. As far as I am concerned it deserves a rosette as ‘best in show’.
